Chichester Cathedral and Pallant House
Wednesday 25 October 2017

Booking opens 14 September.

Coffee in the medieval Vicars’ Hall will be followed by conducted tours of the Cathedral. Dating from 1075 it was described by Pevsner as ‘this most typical of English medieval cathedrals’. The artefacts range from a Roman mosaic, rare medieval sculptures and the Arundel Screen to modern art works including the John Piper tapestries, the Chagall stained glass window and Sutherland’s ‘Noli me Tangere’ painting and the cast aluminium pulpit  by Geoffrey Clarke.

After lunch in the Vicars' Hall, the party will move to Pallant House for an introductory talk before visiting the Gallery. The permanent display comprises works by Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson, Picasso, Klee, Derain, etc., whilst a temporary exhibition will feature the art of David Bomberg (1890-1957), one of the 'Whitechapel Boys', with his early geometrical compositions progressing to portraits and landscapes in an expressionist style.

There should  be an opportunity to ‘pop to the shops’,  spend more time in the Gallery or take a leisurely tea.
